DIY: Mini Easter Garland

This Mini Easter garland cost $1… I walked in the Dollar Tree store last week and found these little wooden carrot Easter ornaments. Since I do love myself a cute garland that is what automatically came to mind. You can easily follow these steps and make a garland out of any little ornaments. I know this garland is pretty easy to make but I will do a simple tutorial anyway~

You will need:

-glue gun and glue sticks
-twine
-ornaments of your choice

This is what they looked like in the box at the Dollar Tree. They also had plain wooden colored egg ornaments that would look really cute jazzed up with a gold sharpie marker or glitter.

I cut off the white loops they just aren’t needed…

Then I put a dot of glue on the twine and pinched the green leafs around the twine. I left about 3-4 inch gaps between each carrot and I alternated sizes of the carrots. Then in a few minutes it’s done!

OUR GERMAN EASTER TREE

Over the past weekend I really wanted to do an Easter Tree for the children. Growing up in Germany we always had an Easter Tree made from Forsythia Branches with little Easter ornaments on it! It seems to me that Germany would always have their blossoms out at Easter time and here in the States it doesn’t seem to happen until a few weeks after Easter. If I would of had extra time I would of ordered some wooden ornaments from Ebay HERE… they have adorable ones!

I went to my local floral shop that had some fresh instock forsythia. But when I got there it hardly had any blooms on it! (sad) So I went to plan B and went to the craft shop and found some branches for just a few dollars. I also picked up these white glittery egg ornaments from the Dollar Tree! So that is it our simple Easter Tree.

Last year Design Mom talked about an Easter Tree that her children did in the garden while they’re living in France. It defiantly brought back little memories for me…

December

The Mistletoe was hung and so was everything else!

I never really take my holiday decor serious. I think it’s because I do it differently every year. This year I didn’t want to spend a lot of money on Christmas things. I wish I could tell you I just picked everything out of a catalog and hand over the links to you. But honestly this year I walked into a local dollar store and picked up most everything from there! I hope that’s not a let down for some of you. But maybe it just shows that you don’t need to spend a lot to add a little personality to your Christmas!

My tree skirt was actually that, a real skirt. I picked it up at good will and was going to turn it into two big pillows. But while I was putting up the tree I realized that the skirt laid flat while it was spread out on the floor, so there it became my tree skirt! Oh and did I mention it has silver sequins. I will make it into pillows someday!

In my tree I like to use two different size light bulbs. It really makes a great difference, the bigger bulbs create a spot light effect in the tree. It looks so good at night from the window!

So this next thing I did was my favorite, it cost me less then $2! I bought two packs of “glitter foam sheets” from of course the dollar store and cut them into big circles. Alliya had the grand idea to put them on the mirror. We then wrapped pink ribbon around the corners of the mirror. Which you can do to anything to make it more Christmas-y! We loved it! Plus we have small children that live in our house, so I think that makes glitter dots alright!

I also grabbed these cute glitter trees from there. I had them just randomly on the fireplace and one afternoon Payton called to me “come out to the living room to see what I did!” As I walked towards him, I was imagining what he could of done and gotten into since he is only five. I was amazed to see that he put the glitter trees on my glass candle stick ledges and they looked perfect!  We loved them so much that they have stayed this whole time!

Here is our other white and pink tree that is in the living room that is mostly all cream and whites. Here I have a few ornaments that were given to me by special people. Like this cream felt heart given to me a few years ago by my Auntie Angie who lives in England.

(Disclaimer I took these photos after the trees were up for a few weeks, since they were put up little hands have moved, lost, taken down and broken ornaments. So being a Christmas tree in our house is all about survival, this is what I took pictures of!)

Feeling Christmasy… Our Morning

I hope everyone had a fantastic Christmas Day with their families yesterday! I loved this year’s Christmas! The funny thing is we didn’t do anything out of the norm, just spending time with both sides of the family with all of our favorite siblings and cousins. This year we went to my parents for Christmas Eve Dinner and Christmas Day at Ben’s families home. But as you know the little party planner in me had to host something Christmas-y too. The past few years we have had Christmas Breakfast and invite all the grandparents to come in the morning. This is just a simple breakfast that we had yesterday morning. Our little round table can only fit so many, so little Owen sat at his own small table decorated just for him. I cut fresh evergreen branches from my garden and picked up some flowers at the local florist. (Just had to be done!)

Since my mother and Ben’s parents are from England we always have a tradition to have English Crackers. They are little packages that have a little toy, joke and a paper crown in them. Our family always has a friendly contest to see who can keep their crowns on the longest. (I may of won on Christmas Eve) My mother has always been good at this game. She has even been known to go to bed still wearing it!

This time for the children’s plates I silver painted little animals, so they could have a fun surprise at their seats.

Little Owen had his own baby table and a silver lamb!

I hope everyone had a fantastic Christmas Day, I love the holidays they really are the best time of the year! I wish we could have Christmas more often! Sorry for my obscene lately, I had my sinus surgery 2 weeks ago and I took some easy time for myself. But now I feel a little behind so I have loads of great things to share this week! thanks for reading everyone!

Owen’s a Birthday Boy

It was Owen’s 2nd birthday over the weekend! I didn’t originally have much planned, we were just going to have a small dinner and some family over for cake! My sister in law called me the day before and mentioned to me “no doubt, I was going to post about it on my blog.” Then all of a sudden I had this urgency to get a mini party together in just a few hours because of course I would probably share it on my blog.

Ben offered to do the cake. He said he “was going to do a two tier cake with homemade frosty.” That sounded good to me… him and Owen made the cake together. It was probably the best cake I have ever had! But the joke of the night was, it wasn’t exactly the best looking cake ever and someone suggested “Ben may of been trying to sabotage my blog.” (I have his permission to say that) It was so funny… and since Owen and Ben made it together, I think It’s adorable. Especially with the half eaten marshmallows on the top that Owen kept sneaking.

“Owen age 2, toddler abstract”

A little Dino on the straws, “Why Not!?”

Instead of a party hat this year, I made a feathered Indian hat out of felt and feathers.

There he is sneaking the marshmallows.

I found these party poppers for $1 at walmart… they were a good time for everyone.

See that banner in the background, a simple DIY is below.

I had to include this picture of Payton at the party. This picture reminds me of Michael Jordan’s famous flying dunk ball picture.

Simple Arrow Banner DIY:

Cut different color felt into squares, then cut the square into two. Which will create two arrows. Next sew the arrows together, bu altering the colors. I did a formula of ex: 3 blue, 3 red, 4 yellow. 2 black etc. I also would now and then flip the arrows direction. So they were not all going the same way.
